Triggers can be created to prevent Russian spam emails from getting created as conversations in Kayako. A trigger may be configured so that the spam email is automatically moved to trash even before it reaches your inbox. This way, you won't have to deal with manually deleting the spam emails from your inbox. But what if you already have them in your inbox? How can you get rid of the spam emails without having to go through each of them one by one?
This article provides information on how to get rid of spam emails that are already in your inbox.
As mentioned in the overview section, an easy way to deal with Russian or Cyrillic-based spam as it enters your system is by deploying a trigger that automatically moves them into the trash. The trigger is configured to look for unique Cyrillic characters (i.e., б, в, г, д, ж, з, к, л, м, н, п, р, с, т, ф, х, ц, ч, ш, щ а, э, ы, у, о, я, е, ё, ю, и, й).
But keep in mind that triggers are event-based. They perform actions on any conversations that match their criteria, the minute those conversations are created or updated. Therefore, if you already have these spam emails in your inbox, and no actions are being executed on these conversations, the trigger won't work.
The solution is to create a monitor. Monitors are time-based rules. They will periodically check all non-closed conversations to see if they meet the conditions set within it. If the rule's conditions match, the rule will fire, and the actions configured will be executed.
To create a monitor that will automatically move existing Russian spam emails in your inbox to trash:
Sign in to your Kayako and go to the Administration area.
In the sidebar, click on Monitors under Automation.
Click the New Monitor button.
In the Rule Title field, add a descriptive title.NOTE: It is essential to use a good naming convention so that you can keep track as you add more and more automation.
From the 'Select a condition' dropdown, choose Conversations: Subject.
From the next dropdown, select contains.
In the next blank field, enter the first Cyrillic character.
Repeat step 7 for all the Cyrillic characters you want to capture (see the screenshot below).
From the 'Perform the following actions' section, select Flow control: Trash a conversation.
- Click the Save button to create your new monitor.
